UBCP/ACTRA members vote to ratify Film & TV contract paving the way for continued industry growth in North America’s third largest Film & TV production centre

For Immediate Release

VANCOUVER – Members of UBCP/ACTRA have voted 75.4% in favour of a new BC Master Production Agreement with the Canadian Affiliates of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and the BC Producers’ Branch of the Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA-BC).

“We are pleased to have a strong agreement in place that will benefit our members for the next three years,” said Ellie Harvie, President of UBCP/ACTRA. “This ratification had a high level of engagement and we now have the opportunity to focus on addressing concerns identified during the bargaining process. We are looking forward to continuing to push issues like minor’s income protections and supporting all performers that face discrimination in the industry.”

The union achieved 3% rate increases over each year of the 3-year agreement. Significant gains were made in areas of the contract related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. In particular the union won meaningful language addressing racial and sexual harassment, supporting performers with disabilities, and tackling the practice of “painting down” in stunts. The producers also committed to supporting the union’s efforts to lobby the provincial government for increased protections of child performers’ earnings.

Notwithstanding the gains made, there is a lot of continued work to do to support our members facing discriminatory practices related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. In addition, as the COVID-19 pandemic persists there is a need to find alternative and flexible testing options to reduce the impact of the COVID-19 terms for UBCP/ACTRA members.

The deal was unanimously endorsed by the union’s bargaining committee and Executive Board.

The new 3-year agreement is retroactive to April 1, 2021.
